Illinois Chapter usually meets once each month, August through June, on Tuesdays. The Chapter’s annual golf outing and fund raiser always takes place in September. Generally 70 to 80 members gather at monthly meetings, which makes them an excellent networking opportunity for members interested in meeting and developing other contacts in the industry.
The State of Illinois requires professional engineers to complete 30 PDHs (Professional Development Hours) of training for license renewal. The Illinois Chapter ASHRAE offers educational programs with more than enough PDHs to help engineers satisfy this requirement.
Presentations from previous Chapter seminars and meetings may be downloaded after logging into the "Member Area." The Illinois Chapter of ASHRAE stores past presentations. You must be a member to access them from this website. If you are not yet a member, sign-up today or contact us for more information.

Buca Di Beppo
90 Yorktown Mall Drive
Lombard, IL 60148
Two interesting presentations planned for our April 11 Illinois Chapter meeting will focus on energy savings in air systems for lab spaces. It all starts at 5:30 p.m. at Buca di Beppo Italian restaurant, 90 Yorktown Rd., (west end of Yorktown Shopping Mall) in Lombard.
Dan Doyle, president of Grumman/Butkus Assocs., will start things by explaining design tips that engineers can follow to reduce energy usage in labs by up to 50%. The high exhaust demands and large equipment loads of labs can lead to energy usage 5 to 10 times that of typical office buildings. Dan’s presentation will discuss general strategies for designing and operating high-performance labs with an emphasis on HVAC system performance.
Next, hear about a project that became the “2016 Lab of the Year” by members of the team that built it. The project is at the University of Illinois new ECE Building in Urbana, IL. The building, designed to be Net-Zero, houses 20 lab spaces for hands-on training of students in 230,000 square feet of space. Describing its design features and operational performance will be Dave Bodenschatz, senior engineer, KJWW Engineering; Laura Holman, architect, SmithGroup JJR; and Jim Coogan, Siemens.
We expect to see a few more student members this month, including our four new recipients of Illinois Chapter Scholarship awards. Each will be introduced at the presentation ceremony. (Student members may attend for free.)
Everyone is welcome. Sign up online. The meeting presentation can earn up to 2 PHDs.
