Meeting/Event Information

Illinois Chapter usually meets once each month, August through June, on Tuesdays. The Chapter’s annual golf outing and fund raiser always takes place in September. Generally 70 to 80 members gather at monthly meetings, which makes them an excellent networking opportunity for members interested in meeting and developing other contacts in the industry.

The State of Illinois requires professional engineers to complete 30 PDHs (Professional Development Hours) of training for license renewal. The Illinois Chapter ASHRAE offers educational programs with more than enough PDHs to help engineers satisfy this requirement.

Presentations from previous Chapter seminars and meetings may be downloaded after logging into the "Member Area." The Illinois Chapter of ASHRAE stores past presentations. You must be a member to access them from this website. If you are not yet a member, sign-up today or contact us for more information.

Targeting Success – Improve Employee Satisfaction, Retention and Profit

"This is an important topic for our industry as a whole as well as for employers trying to minimize turnover."

As the building design and construction industry looks at the composition of the future workforce it is clear that the demographics of today will need to change to meet future demand for employees. It is projected that this change will include increasing the number of women employed in the field. While we have seen an increase in young women enrolling in STEM disciplines at the university level, we have not seen the same increase in the percent of women employed in the STEM workforce. This inconsistency can be attributed to poor retention of women once they enter the profession. This presentation will address why women leave the industry and what can be done to help increase retention. (1 PDH)

We are pleased and excited to welcome Julia Keen, one of ASHRAE's Distinguished Lecturers, to conduct the Jan. 8 presentation. Julia Keen is a Professor of Architectural Engineering and Construction Science at Kansas State University. She also owns her own consulting company, Keen Designs, PA. Her areas of interest include HVAC design, energy codes, high performance design, HVAC education, and the advancement of women in the building design and construction industry. Julia has held several ASHRAE chapter positions including President and CRC Chair of the Cedar Valley Chapter. She has also been involved in many Society level committees. Julia served as a Director-at-Large to the ASHRAE Board of Directors (2013 – 2016). in 2010 she was awarded the Distinguished Service Award.
