Illinois Chapter usually meets once each month, August through June, on Tuesdays. The Chapter’s annual golf outing and fund raiser always takes place in September. Generally 70 to 80 members gather at monthly meetings, which makes them an excellent networking opportunity for members interested in meeting and developing other contacts in the industry.
The State of Illinois requires professional engineers to complete 30 PDHs (Professional Development Hours) of training for license renewal. The Illinois Chapter ASHRAE offers educational programs with more than enough PDHs to help engineers satisfy this requirement.

Thru Shivakumar is the CEO and Co-Founder at Cohesion, a real estate software company that creates intelligent buildings and enhances human experiences by connecting people and systems in a single, comprehensive platform. She is responsible for leading Cohesion’s alignment and execution of its strategic vision, as well as, delivering shareholder value. Thru has 15+ years of experience in private, public, and civic sectors of the economy holding positions across finance, business strategy, M&A, entrepreneurship and business development. Additionally, Thru is the founding board member of Current, a water technology accelerator focused on advanced research and market-driven innovations. Thru holds an M.B.A. from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University and a B.S. in Finance from The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She serves on the boards of Current and Working in the Schools (WITS), a Chicago-based literacy non-profit.
Drew DePriest leads Digital Solutions and Strategy at CBRE|Host. Before CBRE, Drew headed the global Collaboration Services team at Aon, led business development at workplace technology startup Comfy (acquired by Siemens), and spent 12 years in sales and operations at building automation firm Automated Logic. He earned his undergraduate degree in Systems Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, as well as an MBA and a MS in Finance from DePaul’s Kellstadt Graduate School of Business (where he also had a blast as an adjunct professor of marketing for a while). He’s credentialed as a WELL AP through IWBI and previously served on the board of the Chicago Chapter of CoreNet Global.
Shona O’Dea, WELL AP, LEED AP BD+C, is a Senior Associate of DLR Group. Shona’s focus on efficiency and indoor environmental quality is an important component of DLR Group’s Performance Design team, supporting the firm's pursuit of sustainable design and operation. Her primary goal is to challenge people to think differently about the way they design and operate buildings, advising teams from sustainable goal setting to efficient operations. She uses building simulation to help designers quantify energy savings and understand the interaction between building design, mechanical systems, and the environment. Born and raised in Ireland, Shona earned an honors degree in Building Services Engineering from the Dublin Institute of Technology, Ireland's leading sustainable building engineering program, and moved to the Midwest as part of the Atlantis dual master’s program in Sustainability, Technology and Innovation at Purdue University. She currently serves as Young Engineers in ASHRAE (YEA) Region VI Coordinator, and as President of the Chicago Chapter of IBPSA.
Benjamin Skelton, PE, LEED AP, President & CEO, Cyclone Energy Group, Chicago, a company he founded in 2012 after working as a design consulting engineer for 10 years. He established Cyclone to provide a unique service to help design, build and operate high-performance buildings. His background in design and experience with solving complex issues has allowed him to build a company that challenges the built environment to explore new ways to save resources. Benjamin has served ASHRAE for over 20 years. He was the Director and Regional Chair of Region VI from 2016 to 2019. He was a founding member of the Young Engineers in ASHRAE (YEA), has served on Building EQ committee and contributes to several technical committees. He’s been the General Chair of the ASHRAE Winter Conference in 2012 and past President of the Illinois Chapter of ASHRAE.
Over his career, Ben has helped create some of the most energy efficient and unique buildings in the world. Projects include supertall high-rise buildings, net-positive energy designs, LEED Platinum and WELL Certified buildings. He has earned the prestigious ASHRAE International Design Award for the Walgreens Net Zero Energy Store. In 2015 he was named one of the 40 under 40 by Consulting Specifying Engineer Magazine.
