Panelists:
Jim Coogan, P.E. – Guideline 36 Committee Member — Jim is a Principal Application Engineer in product development at Siemens Smart Infrastructure. In 40 years designing controls for mechanical systems, he has contributed to products ranging from room controllers to Internet-based interfaces. Jim has chaired several ASHRAE committees and has been a member of the Guideline 36 committee from the start. Jim earned his SB in mechanical engineering at MIT.
Ernesto Garrote – Guideline 36 Developer / Programmer — Ernesto is an Application Engineer in product development at Siemens Smart Infrastructure. During last 3 years has been involve developing and testing HVAC applications, including ASHRAE Guideline 36 features. As a former Energy Control Specialist at University of Miami, Florida, was in touch with several field equipment and technologies, as well HVAC control sequences. Ernesto graduated in Control Automation Engineering at Technological University of Habana, Cuba also earned a Master’s degree in Robotics, Industrial and Building Automation at the Ramon Llull University (La Salle), in Barcelona, Spain.
JoeDon Breda, P.E. – Guideline 36 Owner / Operator — Joe Don Breda, P.E., is a Sr. Mechanical Engineer with The Ohio State University Medical Center (OSUMC). Working with the OSUMC engineering and analyst teams, JoeDon has facilitated efforts to prove that significant reductions in energy use are achievable through proper application of high performance control strategies. JoeDon is a corresponding member of TC1.4 (Control Theory and Applications), and has recently become a voting member of SGPC36 (High Performance Sequences of Operation for HVAC Systems).

Kevin Ricart, P.E. – Design Engineer — Kevin is a Principal and Mechanical Engineer with SmithGroup in Chicago. Kevin has implemented Guideline 36-based control sequences on multiple projects. He was responsible for developing Guideline 36 based control system boilerplate content for SmithGroup, and training the mechanical engineering staff firmwide on the contents and application considerations of the Guideline. He currently serves as the CTTC Co-Chair for the Illinois Chapter of ASHRAE. Kevin earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s of Architectural Engineering from Penn State University.
